How The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Compares Against The 2018 GMC Yukon
A close cousin to the 2018 Yukon, the new Chevy Tahoe is in many ways very similar to its GMC counterpart.
First, the design of both the Tahoe and Yukon large SUVs is based on the same platform – much like that of the Chevy Suburban. Each vehicle is equipped with a 5.3 liter V8 engine equally capable of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The two all-purpose vehicles are also appointed with 18-inch aluminum wheels, seating for seven and 51.7 cubic feet of cargo space.
As luxury people movers, both the Tahoe and Yukon are winners in this category. The Tahoe, on one hand, voted one of the 12 Best Family Cars of 2018 by KBB, has enough room for up to 9 people with 3rd row seating and more than enough trunk space to accommodate all-things family related.
While not the most luxurious vehicle of the two, the Chevy Tahoe does offer some well-appointed amenities. Standard cloth can be switched out for available leather upholstery and heated seats. A wide center console is equipped with an 8-inch display, five USB ports, MyLink infotainment system, Wi-Fi hotspot with support for up to seven devices, 110-volt power outlet, 13 charging slots and AppleCarPlay.
Tahoe lovers have their choice of several different interior colors and optional front bench seat – replacing the standard, multi-adjustable bucket seating.
GM opted for an opulent chrome exterior on the base model and more body color, black painted trim and 22 inch wheels on the LT and Premier.
In terms of safety, the 2018 Tahoe is equipped with seven standard airbags, and a central bag to keep front passengers from coming in contact with each other in the event of a crash. The LT and Premier models come with active lane control, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights and power adjustable pedals.
It’s no surprise that the 2018 GMC Yukon offers many of the same amenities the Tahoe does – but with a little more luxury.
Measured at 203.9 inches (compared to the Tahoe’s 204.0) the Yukon stands out with a three dimensional grille, 22-inch exclusive wheels and classy box frame. Inside, it offers premium, updated features such as Mastique Ash wood grain trim, stitched leather seating and metal trim.
A variety of interior color combinations are available on the Yukon Denali trim including Jet Black, Cocoa with Shale accents and Cocoa with Dark Atmosphere accents.
Optimum cabin conveniences include an 8-inch touchscreen interface, available navigation and telematics, AppleCarPlay and Android Auto, 4G, LTE Wi-Fi hotspot that accommodates as many as eight devices, four UBS outlets, 110-volt outlet, Bose surround sound, standard wireless phone charging and more.
Just like the Tahoe, this Yukon is big on safety. Some of its features include advanced cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, side blind spot monitoring with lane change alert, standard rear view camera and GMC’s Safety Alert Driver’s Seat.
All in all, both the 2018 Tahoe and Yukon are high ranking vehicles on luxury, comfort and performance. Stop by your Tinley Park Chevy dealer for the best deals of 2018.
