According to a recent article by David Shepardson in the Detroit News, August was the best month ever for Chevy Volt sales. GM reports that more than 2,500 Volt sales would be recorded for the month, vastly outselling it’s Nissan EV competitor, the Leaf. Nissan hasn’t released any August sales numbers for August yet but only 395 Leafs were sold in July.
GM spokeswoman Michelle Malcho said, “We are seeing sales momentum continuing to build for the Volt, especially in key markets — California, Michigan, Illinois and Florida. We’re starting to see other markets grow as well. As with a lot of first generation technologies, it takes time to build customer awareness.”
Malcho speculated that Volt sales for the year will surpass those of the Toyota Prius’s second year.
One in three Volts sales have been in California where the State has granted access to carpool lanes with solo drivers of the extended-range electric vehicle.
