The Redesigned 2017 Chevy Sonic Is Back and Better Than Ever
Never one to shy away from a good opportunity to update a promising new entry, Chevrolet continues to bring more and more capabilities and accessories to some of its most successful recent efforts lately. After the emergence of a redesigned and refreshed Chevy Spark last year, which helped the capable and affordable subcompact to continue a prosperous evolution, the company has released its plans to offer the same treatment to the Spark’s closely related subcompact sibling, the technologically savvy 2017 Chevy Sonic. Now, we’ve got more details from Chevrolet about exactly what we can expect from the new generation.
While there didn’t seem to be much room left to squeeze more into the impressively accessorized Sonic of yore, Chevy still seems to have found a way to expand and improve upon just about every aspect of the new generation. Starting with the car’s basic profile, Chevy has decided to follow with the body styling updates that it recently brought to light with the young Cruze sedan, the compact Trax SUV, as well as with the upcoming 2017 Bolt EV. That means that the Sonic will also be sporting a more fierce double grill fascia, as well as a rear fascia update that lends the subcompact a new sense of sleek sportiness. Along with these updates, Chevy still plans to make the Sonic available in both four and five door variations.
Inside the new Sonic, a host of new technological additions makes it clear that Chevy has put some serious effort into expanding the defining aspect of the heavily accessorized model. Stepping up to a 7-inch touchscreen interface, the 2017 Chevy Sonic makes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available to increase its connective capabilities and make the most out of its multifaceted infotainment system. Other added luxuries now include available heated seats and steering wheel, as well as power seats that mark a first for the subcompact class. In addition to these environmental accommodations, the new Sonic also brings a host of new high-tech safety features on board, including a rear view camera, front collision alert, and parking assistance.
With the evolution of the young Sonic continuing to help Chevy redefine the subcompact ‘city car’ and to allow such vehicles to offer a more multifaceted experience to drivers for less than the competition, we can rightly say that there will be plenty more to say about the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic as it hits the road this year, fresh from GM’s Orion Assembly Plant in Michigan.
