Chevy will debut sporty Aveo in Paris

Chevrolet has given its new Aveo subcompact car a sporty look aimed at capturing young buyers.
The General Motors Co. unit will unveil its latest Aveo as a production debut at the Paris auto show later this month.
The five-door hatchback keeps much of the sporty design of the Aveo RS show car unveiled at the Detroit auto show earlier this year. It has swept back headlights, a rising shoulder line and rear door handles hidden in the C-pillar that give the car the look of a a sporty three-door.
Chevrolet Europe head Wayne Brannon said the new Aveo “is ready to compete against the best in the small car segment, which is also Europe’s largest segment.”
The new Aveo is longer and wider than the current model, giving it a spacious interior and cargo volume that is among best in its class, Chevrolet says.
The interior has a motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster that features an analog tachometer combined with a digital speedometer and warning lights.
Electronic stability control and ABS brakes will be standard on the car.
For the first time, the Aveo will be offered in Europe with a diesel engine featuring fuel-saving stop-start technology. The 1.3-liter engine will be available in 75hp and 95hp versions.
There are two gasoline engines, an 86-hp1.2-liter unit and a 100-hp unit.
The Aveo will offer Chevrolet’s first six-speed automatic transmission on a small car as an option in most markets. Manual transmissions are five- or six-speed depending on engine choice.
A four-door Aveo sedan variant is planned for launch in some markets next summer.
