That is surely the reason why we were so excited to hear about the recent changes GM has incorporated into the 2016 model. There is much that is different with this new Chevrolet Colorado — and there’s also a lot more to get excited about.
The pickup segment has seen a trend towards smaller trucks in recent years, but this particular Chevrolet Colorado has seen a boost in overall size — it’s actually longer than the Silverado. There are also more engine choices in what appears to be a conscious effort to win back some midsize pickup drivers who may have made the switch to crossover models or sports utility vehicles in the past few years. The 2016 Chevy Colorado still feels like an SUV when you sit behind the wheel. It handles well on the road but that comes without having to compromise on power. This model is still every bit a truck and if it’s towing power you’re looking for, the Colorado is capable of pulling as much as 1,580 pounds. Add a towing package and you can easily increase that to 7,000 pounds if necessary. Engine options include a 2.5 liter, four cylinder that delivers 191 lb-ft of torque; a 2.8 liter turbodiesel with 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft; and a 3.6 liter V6 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft. Six speed automatic or manual transmission options are available as well as choices of extended or crew cabs and five or six foot beds.
For the ride inside, features include a rear-view camera, front power seats (which includes lumbar adjustment on the driver’s side) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. More options include a Bose audio system and MyLink connectivity system with an eight-inch touchscreen for navigation. For truck buyers who are looking to return to a mid-size, the Colorado offers good fuel economy, towing power and still fits nicely into most garages.
