New Theft Alarm Notification Service Helps Police Recover Stolen Chevy Vehicles
We always advocate safety first at Apple Chevrolet, your Tinley Park Chevy dealer, and the brand has just taken that sentiment one step further.
In combination with Chevy OnStar services, a new theft alarm notification service will automatically alert you in real time if your car is being tampered with or stolen.
The Theft Alarm Notification feature is an upgrade from Chevy’s RemoteLink 2.0 App which allows users to remotely start or stop an engine, lock and unlock automatic doors, check the car’s fuel, oil life, tire pressure and odometer readings, plus access automatic crash response and emergency systems, stolen vehicle assistance, turn-by-turn navigation, hands-free calling and remote connectivity.
New Chevy car owners are immediately notified by OnStar and the Theft Alarm Notification feature via their choice of text or email. The Chevy app employs GPS technology to track the vehicle and notify local authorities. OnStar will let you know when the police have been contacted.
Certain Chevy vehicles even have the capability to stop, slow or disable a car in unsafe situations after receiving a signal through the Theft Alarm Feature. It’s a service that will prove to be invaluable to Chevy drivers in the recovery of their vehicle.
“Prompt response and quick awareness of theft situations give customers a greater chance to recover stolen property. By leveraging the connection that OnStar provides, Chevrolet owners can remain in contact with their vehicle, even when it is out of sight,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing.
OnStar currently services 7 million subscribers from North America to China and is a trusted provider of emergency, security, navigation, diagnostic and connectivity services.
Users will need to subscribe to Chevy’s Security or Guidance Package in order to receive the notifications and determine whether older model vehicles (prior to 2014) are compatible with the Theft Alarm Notification feature.
Chevy says other GM brands like Buick, Cadillac, and GMC will feature the new vehicle recovery service. But like those of us here are Apple Chevrolet, enthusiasts will have to wait until the new feature is available in North America. According to Chevy, the service may be accessible by the end of the summer. But many 2014 models already offer the Theft Alarm Notification.
