Chevrolet SS Wins in its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Debut
It was the 22nd win for Chevrolet in the 55th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. It was the first victory for the new Chevrolet SS as it debuted in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series.
Five time champion Jimmie Johnson remarked, “I’m very happy to win the first race in the Gen-6 car for Chevrolet in the SS.” He added, “Awesome day.”
Johnson now has 61 victories under his belt. He won the Daytona 500 in 2006.
Chevrolet has more Daytona 500 victories than any other manufacturer. And it was an incredible debut for the new Chevy SS.
Mark Reuss, General Motors North America president, who was instrumental in bringing the new Chevrolet SS to NASCAR, was the honorary pace car driver Sunday for the 55th running of the Daytona 500.
