Lining up to see the cars – GM Motoramas in the 50s
Back in the 1950s, GM owned the show… the Motorama Traveling Car Shows. GM was a marketing powerhouse and created a traveling show to introduce their new concept cars and special models from it’s lineup.
Micheline Maynard writes in Forbes.com’s March 16th issuethat the way people line up for new Apple products like the new iPad is reminiscent of the way people lined up to see the new offerings from GM in the 50s. She writes, “The Motorama featured GM’s latest concept vehicles, special models from its lineup, and well, models. The cars generally revolved on turntables, accompanied by elegant women in evening gowns, gloves and elaborate hairstyles.”
Here’s a great video history of the Motoramas. Enjoy!
