You might not know it, but many Chevrolet vehicles come with the Chevy Remote Start function. If the function isn’t standard, all new Chevrolet models have available remote start. How to Use Remote Start
Wondering how to remote start Chevy vehicles? To begin the remote start process, first make sure your Chevy vehicle is equipped with a remote-operated starter. If you’re not sure if it is, check your key fob or MyChevrolet app “Key Fob” page. Look for a remote-start button shaped like a curved arrow (on the physical key fob, this will be right below the lock and unlock buttons). Once you’ve found the remote start button, you’re ready to start your vehicle remotely. Note: you need to be relatively close to start your vehicle with your key fob. You can only use remote start on your MyChevrolet app from greater distances. To begin, you’ll need to make sure you first press the lock button to lock your car before it starts your engine for safety and security purposes. You will not be able to remote start your vehicle until it has been locked beforehand. Then, immediately press and hold the remote start button (reminder: it looks like an arrow curved in a near-circle) for at least four seconds. Your engine will then roar to life.
How to Know it Worked
In general, it should be pretty easy to tell if your engine was started remotely. You should be able to hear your engine running if near enough. You should also see your parking lights turn on. This is helpful if you’re using remote start from your front window inside your house during the frigid winter or boiling summer months.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
From the time you remote start your vehicle, your engine will run for only 15 minutes before it shuts down itself. This is to preserve power in case you change your mind or forget your vehicle is started. If the 15 minutes runs out before you’re ready to depart, you can repeat the remote start process within 30 seconds of the first run time, for a total of 30 minutes. If you changed your mind about leaving, you can easily turn your engine off by pressing and holding the remote start button just like you do to turn it on.
Something else to keep in mind if your remote start isn’t working is that the function is disabled if the hood is not closed, if the key fob is inside the car (to prevent you from locking yourself out), or if the hazard lights are on. Check these if you’re having any trouble.
