Chevy’s Colorado ZH2 holds all these qualities which is why it has caught the eye of the United States Military.
Over the next few months the military will be observing the features of the Colorado ZH2, mainly the vehicles hydrogen fuel technology. This means the car has an engine built off water that chemically reacts with oxygen to create electricity. It’s good for long drives and does not need a refilling station, meaning it’s good for trips in rural areas. It is also possible to carry a portable fuel cell that can be dropped off anywhere it is needed. The U.S. Navy is also researching this type of technology which would be helpful in the case of a mechanical emergency the two branches could assist one another in fixing the issue. This could be the future of mobility in a warzone.
Not only can this technology help humans but it can help the earth! Hydrogen motors causes less pollution and also cuts down emissions by 30% compared to gasoline motors. California is taking the lead in hydrogen fuel technology with automobiles. In 2014 it was announced the state planned to add 28 water refill stations. This type of technology would lower the dependency on foreign oil and the amount of money the U.S. spends on the transportation of it. This lack of a need for importing would also be beneficial on a military base.
Along with the vehicle’s good engine performance the Colorado ZH2 is silent, even when traveling at high speeds across muddy or rugged terrain. The vehicle also has reduced thermal signatures and a high-output battery. The United States Army Tank Automotive(TARDEC) suspects that because of these features on the car a militarized Colorado ZH2 would give an upper advantage in a warzone.
