Chevrolet Wins Again at the Petit Le Mans!
At Apple Chevrolet, we are always thrilled, but never surprised, when a Chevy racing car wins another race. We will never grow tired of it. That said, it was great to see Chevy racing get another feather in its cap, with the win earlier this month at the Petit Le Mans in Georgia.
The Petit Le Mans is an annual sports car endurance test held at the Road Atlanta course in Braselton, GA. The rules are the same for that of the Le Mans except the event is not quite as grueling. Petit means ‘little’ in French and the older Le Mans race, held in Le Mans France, is a 24 hour endurance contest that has been held every year since 1923. Our little Le Mans in the States, by contrast, has only been going for just shy of 20 years. Endurance stateside is also ten hours instead of 24, but hey, we’ve got things to do in this country and maybe we just don’t have time to spend the entire 24 hours of the day at the racetrack.
Displaying number 90 on his VisitFlorida.com-sponsored Racing Corvette DP, driver Richard Westbrook clinched another championship for Chevrolet in its Prototype class. As the pope visited the East Coast a week previously, Hurricane Joaquin paid a little visit as well in the form of torrential rain which resulted in some seriously flooded tracks. This certainly added to the hazards of the course and was no doubt responsible for the multiple cautions, one just three minutes into the start of the race.
This is the seventh consecutive race Chevy has cinched this racing season. The Corvette DP was first introduced to the racing world in 2012 and has since won four championships. Two of those were a part of the Tudor United Sportscar Championship. In 2014 the Road Atlanta race course became a part of the Tudor United Sports Car Championship season.
We think that it is safe to call yourself a champion just for owning a Chevrolet. But if you’re not a champion yet, don’t worry. You can still come see us at Apple Chevrolet and check out a brand new car or truck today. We are located at 8585 West 159th Street in Tinley Park, IL.
