Chevrolet Announces New Proactive Alerts Technology
Chevrolet continues to lead the pack in terms of marrying innovation with current tech to provide the ultimate customer service experience. The latest information out of Chevrolet headquarters is that the 2016 Chevy Silverado will feature new Proactive Alerts technology.
The Proactive Alerts technology can predict and notify drivers when certain components need attention — in most cases, long before vehicle performance is ever affected. Accessed via the OnStar RemoteLink mobile app, Proactive Alerts will allow owners to “keep tabs on the health of their Silverado” with the touch of a finger. It’s being billed as an “unprecedented industry-first” and a huge step forward in the realm of smartphone integration.
It’s an unfortunate stereotype that truck owners are some sort of band of luddites, uninterested in or incapable of utilizing new technology in their daily driving experience. In fact, General Motors says that Chevy Silverado pickup truck owners are among the most active users of vehicle connectivity. Surprisingly, they make up the largest population of OnStar RemoteLink mobile app users. “We expected Silverado customers to be mid-pack,” GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson told Edmunds. “After all, full-size truck customers tend to be male, middle-aged and live outside major cities — not exactly the picture of an early adopter. Instead, we found they are among the most active users of vehicle connectivity.”
Currently, the most popular features on the RemoteLink app are Remote Start and Vehicle Diagnostics, which allows users to check tire pressures, oil levels and other key data points. The introduction of Proactive Alerts opens up a whole new world for users with the app. GM is calling it a level of “unprecedented connection”.
Proactive Alerts is compatible with Telogis’ fleet maintenance tools that work in sync with OnStar, allowing tracking of destination, speed, engine hours, idle time, oil change status, and fuel economy. 2016 Chevrolet Silverados will be able to connect with OnStar’s remote application programming interfaces in lieu of costly hardware installations in each vehicle. Put simply, it keeps costs down for manufacturers and customers.
GM announced the technology earlier this year, but this is the first word on which vehicle in the fleet will premiere it. Following the Silverado, Proactive Alerts are expected to be available on select 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette, and Silverado HD models equipped with certain powertrains. More vehicles are set to be fitted with the updated tech throughout the 2016 model year.

While you’re here, we’d be happy to use that Remote Start button to warm up a vehicle for you to test drive.
