Chevrolet Helps Teens Drive Safer In The 2016 Chevy Malibu

There are a host of new and exciting features on next year’s models and one in particular is sure to be popular for families of Chevy drivers.
A new generation of drivers will be hitting the streets in the next year, and Chevrolet is prepared to help them stay safe by a state-of-the-art feature on the 2016 Malibu model. Teen Driver is a feature that allows the parents of teen drivers to have more control — even when they are not in the car. The feature automatically mutes the radio until the front seatbelts are fastened. The radio’s maximum volume can also be adjusted to a lower level. If parents are concerned about their teen drivers not paying attention to their speed, they can set a warning light and audible chime to occur if a set max speed is exceeded.
On top of these safety features, the Malibu also gives parents a report card of the teen’s driving, alerting them to behavior that is potentially dangerous. Some of the things that the car will report include how far the car was driven, how fast the car was traveling, and any times the maximum speed limit warning was triggered. It also shows any time there was erratic driving, such as any anti-lock brake events or stability control events.
The Teen Driver feature is connected with the MyLink system and is activated by a specific key fob that can be programmed for the teen driver. The reports and settings are accessed by the parent entering in a chosen pin number to the MyLink system. There are also several safety-assist features that cannot be deactivated by anyone without the pin code, keeping the teen driver as safe as possible.
The 2016 Malibu is the first model to have the Teen Driver feature, but it won’t be the last. Chevrolet has plans to include this on many more models in the future.
